World Cotton Day 2021 was celebrated to recognize cotton as the global commodity cultivated in 75+ countries. Cultivating Cotton leads to employment opportunities and a sustainable economy in underdeveloped countries. World Cotton Day is celebrated to bring out sustainable trade policies that benefit cotton Farmers from the cultivation to reaching the marketplace.
Farmers, researchers, processors and businesses across the globe meet and get exposed to the new technologies for sustainable cotton development on World Cotton Day. The event activities are organized at a country level and are live-streamed at the WTO Headquarters.
UNCTAD involves ongoing assistance to the developing countries related to the cotton trade. The Recent assistance on cotton are Pan-African Cotton Road Map and a project on Promoting cotton by-products in Eastern and Southern Africa.
World Cotton Day Theme 2021
The WTO and the International Trade Centre (ITC) collaborated to organize a webinar on 6 October 2021 on how to develop sustainable cotton for the clothing value chain in Africa. The event on ways to develop green framing and to stimulate regional Trades and intercontinental trades. The Prime focus is on developing cotton and textile value chains in Africa.
