Who is Doc Antle?

Doc Antle runs a 5-acre wildlife preserve located in South Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, U.S.A., called Institute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S.). According to the official website, it is "a world-renowned 50-acre wildlife preserve located in South Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, U.S.A."It also served as an inspiration for the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park of Joe Exotic. Joe even refers to Doc Antle as his mentor. Antle acquired his first tiger in 1982, and it almost took about six months to pet it. He has also offered his animal-handling services to movies such as Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Mighty Joe Young. Eventually, he earned considerable money by doing such work and purchased Myrtle Beach property. He opened an animal sanctuary for big cats and apes in the same place. 

What is Antle Doc's Real Name?

Antle Doc was originally called Kevin Antle when he was born in Salinas, California, on March 16, 1960. Antle was born in a wealthy background on an industrial farm. His father, being a boxer, taught him martial arts. He also inherited his interest in Eastern philosophy from this mother. Other sources also claim that he got this name from his mother. Bhagavan means "friend of God." The docuseries also suggests that Antle was awarded a Ph.D. in Zoology at 21. In a clip, Antle says: "I'm a doctor, right, on one side. I'm 'Doc' because I'm an M.D. So I've got a whole… I've gone through and done a lot of autopsies. And I've been through a lot of bodies and seen a whole lot of sickness." His ex-wife Radha Hirsh says, "To my knowledge, he's not a doctor. When he was in China, he paid somebody to write 'doctor' on some certificates. And Frankly I would never let him stick a needle in me." Betsy added, "He was never an actual doctor. He wanted to be one but he didn't have the patience for school, so he just says he is,"

What Happened to Antle Doc and Where is He Now?

Antle was not happy with his portrayal in the Tiger King. He said, "Remember, this is not a documentary. This is a salacious, outrageous ride through a television show produced to create drama, to just tie you in to some crazy train wreck of a story between the feud of Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic, and the meltdown that ensued between two people who both are far too close to murder themselves, and I think a little bit of madness thrown in on their parts," In December 2019, authorities raided Antle's Safari park, and after a year, on October 9, 2020. He was indicted on 15 charges, including, 

One felony count of wildlife trafficking

One felony count of conspiracy to wildlife traffic

Four misdemeanor counts of conspiracy to violate the Endangered Species Act

Nine Misdemeanour counts of animal cruelty. 

However, Antle is not ready to accept the claims. He mentioned, "I categorically deny any act or conduct that could ever be considered as 'animal cruelty.' I have spent my entire professional life promoting the welfare and conservation of big cats and other species."I have deep regard and feelings for the animals in my care and would never hurt or abuse them in any way. I look forward to being able to answer these charges and to be able to clear my good name." In his recent Instagram post on March 26, he wrote, "We are very disappointed that our facility was mentioned in the new Netflix series. We can only assume it is because Doc Antle has been such a high profile wildlife personality for so many decades that his association would create more buzz... Tiger King is the bizarre story of Joe and Carole [Baskin] and their feud. These characters are not representative of experts in the wildlife sector or world class facilities like ours here in Myrtle Beach."

Who are Doc Antle wives?

Betsy: As per the docuseries, Betsy is Doc's first wife. The pair met in high school and got married. Antle's first wife, Betsy Rogers (Brahmi), mentioned that Swami Satchidananda, an Indian guru and spiritual master in the docuseries, changed their names. She also mentioned that after their marriage, they attended a one-month yoga retreat at Yogaville to become yoga instructors. Their names were changed from Antle and Betsy to Sri Mahamayavi Bhagavan and Brahmi. 

Sumati: They both met in the 1980s in Virginia. When they met, Sumati was 14, and Bhagavan was 22. They got married when she was 15 in a meditation room. After four years, Sumati got pregnant with Tilakam. 

Radha: They pair met when he was 25, and she was 14. However, they eventually split as she fell out of love with him. 

Dawn Thurston: She is Doc's third wife officially. However, Dawn Marie Thurston was rumored to have died in a car accident. 

Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story

Tiger King, which arrived on Netflix on December 10, explains the shocking truth behind Doc Antle's eccentric, animal-living facade. It was released as a new true crime docuseries. The first Tiger King series refers to Antle as a doctor of mystical science. It explained to him to have studied and obtained a doctorate abroad in China in Chinese medicine.
