Butch Dingle Actor

One of the most recognizable characters in Emmerdale and a significant member of the Dingle family was Butch Dingle, who was played by actor Paul Loughran. Francis Albert "Butch" Dingle, the son of Zak and Nellie Dingle, was given the nickname because when he was six years old, he brought home from school some flowers that he intended to press and dry. Because of his son's oversensitivity, his father Zak began addressing him as "Butch" in an effort to urge him to act more manly.

What Happened To Butch Dingle?

Butch became a bully and troublemaker during his early years in the village because he believed he was unable to mature as a person and communicate his actual emotions. When Butch made his debut appearance on television in 1994, actor Paul Loughran quickly established himself as a mainstay of the ITV serial opera. When Butch died in a 2000 village bus accident, the rest of the Dingle family was heartbroken. His gravestone read: "Dead but still Dingles," and he was interred next to his brother, who had passed away six years previously.
