The Legend of Zelda the Missing Link was innovated by a team led by Kaze Emanuar, a modder. Most of his work has concentrated on Super Mario franchise-based games, but last year saw the announcement of a fan-made game aimed at bridging the gap between Zelda's Legend: Ocarina of Time and Zelda's Legend: Majora's Mask. The match was later published earlier this year.

Naturally, at a glance, it looks very similar to the N64-era games; after all, many of the assets of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are used.
Nevertheless, players can discover that it's a brand new environment that provides several hours of new gameplay. Unfortunately, TorrentFreak notes that a DMCA takedown for the GitHub page of the game was released by Nintendo, effectively destroying this project's official download. With this fan initiative, Nintendo cited some unsurprising problems it had.

The Zelda game looked like a really fun experience, but it was likely that Nintendo would potentially take some sort of legal action against the project. Making a fan-made game without getting hit by a DMCA is a difficult undertaking. There were several primary issues that made The Legend of Zelda vulnerable to a DMCA takedown: The Missing Link

  • It uses  one of the Nintendo trademarks

  • It uses copyrighted characters of Nintendo

  • It must be played with a ROM

In The Missing Link and related YouTube videos, Nintendo has lodged copyright charges, and the game has since been removed from the GitHub website where it was available for download. For the past few years, Nintendo's strategy has been to shut down any and all fan-made games that infringe on their intellectual property copyrights.
