It is celebrated during 'Shukla Paksha' or the Full Moon fortnight in Magha. The muhurat or auspicious time for Saraswati Puja is Panchami tithi, during Purvahna Kala that falls between sunrise and midday.  It is considered more beneficial if the puja is performed in Panchami tithi. The best time to perform Saraswati puja is from 7:07 AM to 12:35 PM, 5th February 2022.

Story of Saraswati Puja

As per Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu requested Brahma to create the universe. After the creation, Lord Brahma visited the universe which was in complete silence. After giving a  thought, he sprinkled the water from his kamandala. Goddess Saraswati emerged with veena and Vedas in front of him, to delight the people on earth with music and knowledge.

Significance of Saraswati Puja

It is believed that goddess Saraswati was born on Vasant Panchami. She bestows us with knowledge, arts and music. Hence artists, musicians, and students worship her to vanish the ignorance and enlighten the wisdom. Vasant Panchami also marks the beginning of spring. Hence Saraswati puja is celebrated with dance and devotees sing hymns to seek her blessings.

How to celebrate Saraswati puja?

  • Clean your home and apply neem and turmeric on your body and bath. Cover the table or raised platform with a clean white cloth and place the idol on it.

  • Place Lord Ganesha beside the Saraswati idol.

  • Fill the Kalash with water, place a sprig of five mango leaves, put a betel leaf over it.

  • Place your musical instruments, books and other creative elements at the feet of goddess Saraswati.

  • It is believed that yellow is her favourite colour, wear yellow colour attires,  offer her a plate adorned with yellow flowers, sweets, turmeric & rice.

  • Light lamp and incense sticks and chant Saraswati mantra 

  • Finally, it’s time to relish sweets with your friends and family.
