Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun who is professionally known as WizKid is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was born on 16th July 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. He began to record songs at the age of 11 and released an album with the collaboration with glorious five, a group he formed with a couple of his church friends. He then went on to sign a record deal with empire mates entertainment in 2009.

 “Holla at your boy”, the lead single from his debut album Superstar (2011) gave him his fame. “Tease me/bad guys”, “dont dull”, “love my baby”, “pakurumo” and “oluwa lo ni” are the other singles released in the album superstar.

Wizkid became the first-ever Nigerian musician to hit 1 million followers on Twitter in February of 2014. In September 2014, he released his second studio album named “Ayo” it comprised six singles “jaiye jaiye”, “on top your matter”, “one question”, “joy”,”Bombay” and “show you the money”.  The very same year WizKid let E.M.E  after his contract expired.

In 2016, Wizkid collaborated with Drake on the hit single “One Dance” which reached no.1 on the US Billboard hot 100 and topped the charts in 14 other countries which in turn gained him international recognition.  The song broke multiple records, which made WizKid the first Afrobeat artist to appear in the Guinness world records.

The next year, he released his third studio album “sonds from the other side”, after he signed a multiple album deal with RCA records. “Come closer” featuring Drake was one of the other five singles in the album.

In 2018, he took part and was featured in the song “checklist” by Normani and Calvin Harris, which reached no 1 billboard digital songs sales chart. The same year, he was featured in Beyonce’s project the lion king: the gift on the single “brown skin girl” which again reached no 1 billboard digital songs sales chart and won him his “grammy award for best music video”.

He released his fourth studio album “made in Lagos”, which was well-received commercially, reached no1 on Billboard world album chart. “Essence“ featuring Tems became the first-ever Nigerian song to chart on billboard hot 100 and remix with Justin Beiber made it reach the top ten in the chart. 

Wizkid is the most steamed Nigerian artist of all time in Spotify with over 3.4 billion streams across all credits by February of 2020.
