Pokemon Detective Pikachu Ending Explained

In the movie Detective Pikachu, it is revealed at the end that the Pikachu character, voiced by Ryan Reynolds, is actually the father of the protagonist, Tim Goodman, played by Justice Smith. This was possible because Mewtwo, a powerful Pokémon, has the ability to transfer human consciousness into a Pokémon body.

The founder of Ryme City, Howard Clifford, planned to use this power to force all humans in the city to fuse with their Pokémon, but Mewtwo saved Harry's life by placing his soul inside the body of the Pikachu, who then helped Tim to uncover the truth about his father's disappearance.

"Pokémon Detective Pikachu" received mixed reviews from critics but was generally praised for its impressive visual effects and Ryan Reynolds' voice acting as Pikachu. The film was noted to have some plot holes and unanswered questions, but it managed to become the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation at the time of its release.

Pokemon Detective Pikachu Plot

Following the death of his mother and estrangement from his father Harry, a police detective, Tim Goodman gives up his dream of becoming a Pokémon trainer. He is contacted by the police of Ryme City, where humans and Pokémon live together harmoniously, and informed that his father died in a car accident.

Tim meets Harry's police partner, a Pikachu in a deerstalker hat who only he can understand. They accidentally release a mysterious purple gas known as "R" from a vial in Harry's office and are attacked by rabid Aipom. Pikachu believes that Harry survived the crash, so they go to Harry's informant, a Mr. Mime, who directs them to an illegal underground Pokémon battle arena.

After a raid on the arena, Tim is shown footage of Harry's crash and told that he could not have survived. Tim and Pikachu are then contacted by Howard Clifford, the founder of Clifford Industries and creator of Ryme City, who reveals that Harry was abducted by a genetically engineered Pokémon called Mewtwo.

Howard warns Tim that his son, Roger, is behind the creation of the R gas. With the help of journalist Lucy Stevens and her Psyduck, they travel to an abandoned genetics laboratory and are attacked by Greninja. Pikachu is injured, and Tim objects to Mewtwo's help, believing himself to have betrayed his father.

Pikachu leaves Tim but discovers that Greninja, not Mewtwo, was responsible for the crash. Howard is revealed to be the true mastermind behind the "R" gas and Mewtwo experiments, fusing humans with Pokémon. Pikachu fights Mewtwo, while Tim discovers that the real Roger was tied up and gagged to complete the deception.

They defeat Howard, and Mewtwo separates people and their Pokémon. Tim reunites with Harry in his human body, and he decides to stay in Ryme City to become a detective and spend time with his father and Pikachu.
