In 1957 there was a fair named Thessaloniki International Fair happening in Thessaloniki, Greece at that time. Dimitris Vakondios was attending the fair by representing the Nestlé food company, where Nestle was trying to introduce a new instant chocolate beverage that was made using milk and shaken in a shaker before giving it to the customer. Fortunately, Vakondios couldn’t find hot water in order to make Nescafe instant coffee during his break, so he was forced to use cold water, and he mixed cold water and ice in his Nescafe in one of the exhibit shakers. There! The result was such an amusing and refreshing foamy cold coffee beverage that later became the first Greek café frappé. It is also considered as the official national coffee drink of Greece. The National Frappe Day is celebrated on 7th October every year in many countries.
