Children's Day is observed across India to raise awareness about children's rights, care, and education. Every year on November 14th, it commemorates the birth of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Among children, Nehru was known as Chacha Nehru, and he campaigned for youngsters to receive a well-rounded education in order to help construct a better society in the future. Children, according to Nehru, are the true power of a nation and the cornerstone of society. Many educational and motivational programs for children are held across India on this day. Children's Day has been observed in India since 1956. Prior to the death of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, India marked Children's Day on November 20 (the date designated by the United Nations as Universal Children's Day). Jawaharlal Nehru's birth anniversary was chosen to be honored as Children's Day in India after his death. A motion was voted in parliament to give the first Prime Minister of India a proper send-off.

History Of National Children's Day
Jawaharlal Nehru had great faith in India's children because they "can play together without thinking about differences." In 1955, he founded the Children's Film Society of India so that Indian children might see themselves depicted on screen. He was instrumental in the establishment of some of India's most prestigious educational institutions. His vision was instrumental in the founding of AIIMS for medicine, IITs for engineering, and IIMs for management studies. Nehru's influence lives on through the education of India's children. He is said to have stated, "Tomorrow's India will be built by today's children. The way we raise children will determine the country's future." This idea is shown in the letters he wrote to his daughter, Indira Gandhi when she was a little child. Books based on the letters were also published. Children's nonfiction books like Letters from a Father to His Daughter (1929) and Glimpses of World History (1934) have been popular.
