For starters, gather your friend’s Xbox Live Gamertag. Also, note that the Xbox Gamertags are case sensitive as well as space sensitive.
Now, open the Xbox Console Companion app on your PC
Tap on the Find People search bar and type in your friend's Gamertag.
Now hit the search button to zero in on your friend's ID.
From the list, select your friend and tap right on the “Add Friend” option.
