Kannada Rajyotsava-The Kannada Formation Day
Every year on November 1st, Kannada Rajyotsava, also known as Karnataka Formation Day or Karnataka Day, is commemorated. The state of Karnataka was formed on this day in 1956 when all the Kannada-speaking districts of southwestern India were combined. Rajyotsava day is a government holiday in Karnataka, and it is observed by Kannadigas all over the world. It is marked by the announcement and presentation of the Government of Karnataka's honours list for Rajyotsava Awards, the hoisting of the official Karnataka flag with an address from the state's Chief Minister and Governor, as well as community festivals, orchestras, Kannada book releases, and concerts.
Kannada Rajyotsava History
With the Karnataka Ekikarana movement in 1905, Aluru Venkata Rao was the first to dream of integrating the state. In 1950, India became a republic, and separate provinces were formed in the country based on the language spoken in each region. As a result, the state of Mysore was formed, which included numerous places in south India that were previously ruled by kings. Mysore state, which included most of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore, was amalgamated with the Kannada-speaking portions of the Bombay and Madras presidencies, as well as the principality of Hyderabad, on November 1, 1956, to form a single Kannada-speaking sub-national entity. The three regions of the newly constituted Mysore state were thus North Karnataka, Malnad (Canara), and old Mysore. The newly unified state was given the name "Mysore" after the erstwhile princely state that served as the nucleus of the new entity. However, the inhabitants of North Karnataka were opposed to the name Mysore being kept because it was associated with the former princely state and the new state's southern regions. On November 1, 1973, the state's name was changed to "Karnataka" in respect to this logic. When this historic decision was made, Devaraj Arasu was the state's, Chief Minister.
