The department said Tuesday that a Grand Prairie police officer was killed in a crash on Monday night when he tried to stop a car with a fake paper license plate already used on more than 200 vehicles.

Officer Brandon Tsai, noticed the car at about 10:45 p.m. near Southwest 3rd Street and Pioneer Parkway, police said. He called for backup, pursued the vehicle in a 5-to-6-mile chase, and looped onto President service road. Tsai collided with a squad car near Dickey Road, police Chief Daniel Scesney said on Tuesday at a news conference the vehicle rolled and crashed into a pole.
