Govardhan Puja Importance

The importance of Govardhan Puja is described in Vishnu Purana. It is said that Devraj Indra was proud of his powers and Lord Shri Krishna made a Leela break Indra's ego. According to this legend,  Gokul people used to prepare various kinds of dishes and sing songs with joy. Seeing all this, boy Krishna asked Yashoda Mata what festival you are preparing for. In response to Krishna's question, Mother Yashoda said that we worship Lord Indra. In Mother Yashoda's answer, Krishna asked again why we worship Indra. Then Yashoda Maa said that by the grace of Indra Dev there is good rain and grain is produced, our cows are fed. After listening to Mother Yashoda, Krishna said that in this case, we should worship Govardhan Parvat. Because our cow grazes there, it rains on the trees and plants there. After hearing about Gokul Krishna, all the people began to worship Govardhan Parvat.

Seeing all of this, Devraj Indra got angry and it started to rain heavily to avenge his insult. When they saw the catastrophic rain, all residents of Gokul were shocked. Meanwhile, Lord Shri Krishna showed his Leela and lifted the Govardhan mountain on his little finger, and called all the villagers under the mountain. Seeing this, Indra intensified the rain, but despite torrential rains lasting 7 days, there was no harm to the residents of Gokul. After that, Indra realized that there can be no simple man who can keep up.As Indra came to know that he competed with Mr. Shri Krishna after he apologized to Mr. Shri Krishna and worshiped Murridhar and offered him the Bhog.Govardhan’s offer, began after this mythological event the every year thousands of devotees from all over the country and the world reach the Parikrama of Govardhan Parvat.
