Gorillaz is an English virtual band that was formed in 1998. It was formed by the musician Damon Albarn and the artist Jamike Hewlett from London, England. The band contains four animated members 2-D(vocals, keyboards), Murdoc Nicclas(bass Guitar), Russel Hobbs(drums), and Noodle (Guitar, keyboards, vocals). Their fictional universe is presented in interviews, music videos and short cartoons, comic strips. Gorillaz music always makes a mix with feature artists, with Albarn as the only permanent musical contributor.

The lead vocalist of the Gorillaz is Damon Albarn. Damon is famous as the lead singer of Blur. They worked cordially to make Britpop happen. The idea to form Gorillaz came after Albarn and Hewlett once watched MTV. Jamie Hewlett was a comic artist and writer. With Gorillaz, Albarn deviated from the Britpop of his band Blur, searching for different music styles which contain hip hop, electronic music, and world music in an “eccentrically postmodern” way. The band’s 2001 debut album Gorillaz had dub, Latin, and punk influences that have gone triple platinum in the UK and double platinum in Europe. Their second album Demon Days have gone six times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US.

Murdoc Faust Niccals is the fictional bassist for the virtual band Gorillaz. He is from England. He is voiced by Phil Cornwell and was created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. Stuart Harold "2-D" Pot is a fictional English musician, singer, and member of the British virtual band Gorillaz. He gives the lead vocals and plays the keyboard for the band. 2-D’s speaking voice is given by actor Nelson De Freitas in many Gorillaz direct-to-video projects like Phase Two: Slowboat to Hades and Phase One: Celebrity Take Down. His singing voice is given by Blur frontman Damon Albarn on Gorillaz recordings and performances. Kevin Bishop became the new voice of 2-D. He was created by Jamie Hewlett and Albarn in 1998.

She was created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett in 1998. Noodle has been voiced by Haruka Kuroda and Haruka Abe. Russel Hobbs is a musician from America and a member of the British Virtuala band Gorillaz. He gives the drums and percussion for the band. Similar to other Gorillaz band members, Russel was created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett in 1998. He firstly appeared in Gorillaz’s debut EP Tomorrow Comes Today in 2000. His speaking voice is given by Nigerian drummer Remi Kabaka Jr., who joined Gorillaz in an official capacity on actual percussion in 2016.
