Dol Gyaras Vrat Katha

When Yudhishthira asked Lord Krishna to tell him a story that destroys sins, then Lord Shri Krishna told him a story, and by listening or reading it, sins can be destroyed. The Lord started. There was a demon king named Bali who lived in the Tretayuga Yuga. He was a great devotee of Lord Krishna. Bali used to always worship Lord Shri Krishna. He also worshiped Brahmins and performed big sacrifices. But he had enmity with Indra. Bali had conquered Lord Krishna, assumed the form of Vamana, and took the fifth incarnation. He conquered King Bali with a brilliant move. He requested King Bali for three steps of land. King Bali agreed to fulfill the request of the Brahmin. Then Vamana increased the form of Trivikram and established position in Bhuloka, thigh in Bhuvarloka, waist in heaven, stomach in Mahaloka, heart in Janalok, throat in Yamaloka. Then holding the hand of King Bali said, The Lord said, “O king, with one step, the earth has been completed, and by the second step, heaven is taken, now where should I keep the third step?”. Then King Bali gave his head to the Lord to keep the third step. When the Lord placed his foot on the king, King Bali went to Patal Lok. The Lord promised him that he would always be with the king. This is the story of Dol Gyaras.
