Anant Chaturdashi Vrat Katha

A long time ago, there was an ascetic brahmin whose name was Sumant, and their wife's name was Diksha. He had a beautiful and pious daughter named Sushila. When Sushila grew up, her mother, Diksha, died. Then his father Sumant married a woman named Kakashi. When Sumant married his daughter to sage Kaundinya, Karkasha tied his youth in pieces of brick and stone in farewell. Sage Kaudinya felt this behaviour very bad. He took away his Sushila with a sad heart and took it with him. It was nighttime on the go. Then Sushila saw that in the evening, on the river bank, women wearing beautiful clothes were worshipping some deity. When Sushila asked him out of curiosity, he narrated the importance of the eternal fast. After worshipping, Sushila also observed this fast and tied a string of fourteen knots in her hand and came to the sage Kaundinya and told the whole thing. The sage broke that thread and threw it into the fire. This insulted Lord Anant. As a result, sage Kaundinya started living unhappy. All their wealth was destroyed, and they became poor. One day when he asked his wife why, Sushila gave the reason for the sadness and said that you had lit the string of infinite God. After this, Sage Kaundinya felt very remorse. He went to the forest to get Anant Dore. After wandering like this for many days in the forest, he fell on the ground, but one day Lord Anant appeared to him and said that you insulted me, due to which you had to suffer so much, but now you have repented. I am happy that you go home and do the Anant Vrat methodically. But by fasting for fourteen years, all your troubles will disappear, and you will be prosperous again. Sage Kaundinya observed a ritualistic fast and got freedom from all the troubles.
