Dennis Johnson, a brilliant defensive player who helped achieve the Seattle SuperSonics and Boston Celtics to N.B.A. championships, died on 22nd February 2007 in Austin, Tex. He was 52 years old and the cause of his death was a heart attack, the National Basketball Association said. Johnson, a five-time All-Star guard, was in his second season as coach of the NBA Development League's Austin Toros. He collapsed outside the Austin Convention Center after a team practise and never regained consciousness, according to Perri Travillion, a spokeswoman for the Toros, a Celtic affiliate.

Johnson remained with the Celtics organization after his playing career, working as a scout for the team. He joined the Celtics as an assistant coach in 1993 and remained there until 1997. In 2000, he was an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers, and he was the interim head coach for 24 games near the end of the 2002-03 season.Johnson also coached in the CBA and in the NBA Development League, where he held several head coaching positions. He had a heart attack and collapsed at the end of a practice in 2007 while serving as the head coach of the Austin Toros. He was rushed to the hospital, but he was unable to be revived, and he  was pronounced dead.He was running practice the next minute, and then he was gone. Everyone in the NBA was shocked and couldn't believe what had happened. Johnson's legacy will live on in the NBA, and he will be remembered as one of the game's all-time greats.

Johnson, 52, suffered a heart attack, according to an Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services spokesman. When paramedics arrived at the Austin Convention Center, Johnson was unconscious and in cardiac arrest.  Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Johnson for 23 minutes before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Perri Travillion, a Toros spokeswoman, said Johnson collapsed while she was speaking with him on the sidewalk outside the Convention Center. Johnson was making a joke about receiving a parking ticket. "We were laughing," Travillion said. "He simply collapsed." Travillion dialled 911, but Johnson never came back to life. Johnson did not appear to overexert himself during practise, according to Travillion, and he did not complain of any discomfort before collapsing.
