On February 5, 1662, the allies marched into Cochin and marched into the formal Raja's palace. His relatives had sided with the Dutch. The Dutch assisted Cochin in ousting the Portuguese-friendly monarch. In the ensuing combat, the Portuguese-friendly king, along with two of his juniors, were killed. The Dutch were commanded to besiege the Portuguese fort by the Cochin royal family, who appointed a new king.

On October 31, 2003, the United Nations General Assembly passed the UN Convention Against Corruption. The Assembly also declared December 9 to be World Anti-Corruption Day, in order to raise awareness about corruption and the Convention's role in combating and preventing it.
