The Kuomintang party decreed in 1928 that Chinese New Year will fall on January 1st, adopting the Gregorian Calendar, but this was overturned due to widespread public protest. Traditional Chinese New Year festivities were outlawed in China during the Cultural Revolution in 1967. As people needed to work on Chinese New Year Eve, the State Council of the People's Republic of China proclaimed that the public should modify traditions and have a revolutionised and combative Spring Festival, and because people needed to work on Spring Festival day, they did not have holidays. By the time of the Chinese economic restructuring, public festivities had resumed.

Chinese New Year 2022 End Date
