World Chess Championship 2021 Time Control
Read the World Chess Championship time control carefully. Each game's time control is 120 minutes for the 1st 40 moves, then followed by 60 minutes for the next 20 moves, after that 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move beginning from move 61. The match has 14 games. A score of at least 7½ will be the winner of the world championship without the need for tie-break games. If the score was equal after 14 games, tie-break games with faster time controls would be played.
World Chess Championship Time Rules
As mentioned earlier, if the score was equal after 14 games, tie-break games with faster time controls would be played.
Four rapid games with 25 minutes each + 10 seconds increment beginning from move 1. If the player scores 2½ points or above, they will win the championship.
After the rapid portion, if the score was equal, up to 5 mini-matches of 2 blitz games would be played. The time control was 5 minutes + 3 seconds increment. For any player who wins one of these mini-matches, the tie-break will end, and they win the championship.
If all 5 blitz mini-matches were drawn, 1 sudden death game would be played. In that, the Black has draw odds and 4 minutes and white has 5 minutes. Players get 2 seconds increment beginning move 61.
Before Black's 40th move, the player cannot agree to draw. A draw claim before then was only permitted through the arbiter if threefold repetition occurs.
