House of the Dragons TV Series Info

American fantasy drama television program House of the Dragon. The second show in the franchise, produced by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO, is a precursor to Game of Thrones (2011–2019). The Martin books A Song of Ice and Fire served as the inspiration for both series. The showrunners are Condal and Miguel Sapochnik. The series, which is loosely based on the book Fire & Blood, is set roughly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, a member of the namesake royal dynasty, and 100 years after the Targaryen Conquest, which unites the Seven Kingdoms.

It depicts the start of House Targaryen's demise as well as the events leading up to and encompassing the Targaryen war of succession, also known as the "Dance of the Dragons."

In October 2019, a straight-to-series order for House of the Dragon was made. Casting will start in July 2020, and in the UK, main photography will begin in April 2021. On August 21, 2022, the show made its debut. The first season had ten episodes. The show's second season was ordered five days after it made its debut. Condal was the only showrunner for the second season after Sapochnik left his position as showrunner following the first.

Who Stole Vhagar Dragon?

Most likely, Aemond Targaryen took Vhagar. This is so because only those with Targaryen ancestry are eligible to claim a dragon. Naturally, the Targaryen prince was free to claim the enormous dragon as his own since Vhagar no longer had a rider and Aemond had no dragon.

Dragons are never the possessions of the Targaryens or the ones bound to them, despite the fact that the television show does lead us to assume that Vhagar was "taken." They simply form bonds with their Dragonriders, but these bonds are severed when the dragon rider passes away. For this reason, after Laena passed away, Vhagar was a "free" dragon, and Aemond was likewise free to claim her as his own dragon.

Who Is Vhagar’s Dragonrider?

As Laena Velaryon and Prince Daemon Targaryen flew their dragons to impress the Pentoshi prince they were staying with while travelling through Pentos, episode 6 gave us our first official encounter with Vhagar. The enormous dragon identified itself as Laena's mount. While Vhagar is reputed to be twice as large as the Blood Wyrm and the only dragon that came close to matching the size of Balerion the Dread, Caraxes is already a gigantic dragon. Laena even told her daughter that she was able to claim Vhagar, though she did enjoy her time as Vhagar's rider. She passed away at the young age of 15 because she decided to leave this world on her own terms after having difficulty giving birth to her third child. She, therefore, ordered Vhagar to burn her alive in order to kill herself because, given her current situation, this was the most humane method to do it.

Laena had already passed away, therefore Vhagar was without a dragon rider. For the unaware, dragons will never recognize more than one dragon rider at a time and will only bond with one at a time. The dragon is free to unite with a new dragon rider once its first dragon rider passes away.

Vhagar can now bond with a new dragon because of this.

What Happened to Vhagar?

Since the children of all the Targaryens included in the story were able to get together, we saw in the episode 7 preview that Laena Velaryon had a burial. Jacaerys Velaryon was sound sleeping when one of Laena's kids woke him up and informed him that Vhagar had been taken.

Aemond Targaryen was the one who kidnapped Vhagar in Fire & Blood. Aemond first appeared in the episode when his brother and nephews teased him for being the only one without a dragon of his own. Sunfyre belonged to Aegon II, Vermax to Jacaerys, and Arrax to Lucerys.

Aemond became so desperate as a result of this that he marched into the dragon pit to see the dragons with the hopes of claiming one of them as his own.

Because dragons are available for the taking by anybody with Targaryen blood the instant their dragon rider dies, Aemond never "took" Vhagar as a result. The same applied to Vhagar, who was set free and could now be claimed by Aemond. In that sense, Vhagar was never taken; rather, it was just claimed. But the Velaryons might have believed that the dragon had been taken from them since Vhagar had once been in their camp.

Why Did Aemond Steal Vhagar?

In a way, Aemond "stole" Vhagar from the Targaryen children who all grew up together in King's Landing because he was the only one without a dragon. That's because, unlike Jace and Luke, he was never given the opportunity to claim his own dragon or dragon egg. He, therefore, understood that now was his finest opportunity to seize the formidable creature when he observed that Vhagar was ready for the talks just after the biggest dragon in the world had lost her dragon rider.

It was possible, though, that Aemond claimed Vhagar as his own because his mother, Queen Alicent, had instructed him to do so. We all understand that Alicent is trying her hardest to undermine Rhaenyra's argument and her camp.
