Wilko Johnson was an English guitarist, singer, songwriter, and infrequent actor. He was a part of the pub rock/rhythm and blues band Dr. Feelgood in the 1970s. Johnson was known for playing the guitar in an unorthodox fingerstyle without the use of a pick. This enabled him to play rhythm guitar and riffs or solos at the same time, creating a very percussive guitar sound.

"Thank you for respecting the family's privacy at this very sad time. R.I.P. Wilko Johnson." Wilko also made his acting debut in the well-known HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones as the deaf executioner Ser Ilyn Payne.

Johnson chose not to receive chemotherapy after receiving a late-stage pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2013. He was informed that year that he only had nine to ten months to live. After a significant procedure to remove a three-kilogram tumor, he stated later that year that he was cancer-free.
