Who Is Margaret Alva?
Margaret Alva is a politician from India. Alva served as the 17th Governor of Goa, the 23rd Governor of Gujarat, the 20th Governor of Rajasthan, and the 4th Governor of Uttarakhand till August 2014. She formerly served as a Cabinet Minister. She took over in Rajasthan from Shivraj Patil, the governor of Punjab, who was also in charge of that state. She was a prominent member of the Indian National Congress and the Joint Secretary of the All India Congress Committee before being named governor. Violet Alva, her mother-in-law, was the Rajya Sabha's Second Deputy Chairperson in the 1960s. The United Progressive Alliance, along with certain non-UPA opposition parties, nominated her for the office of Vice President of India in the 2022 election on July 17, 2022.
