Who Is Kehlani?
Kehlani is an American Singer, songwriter and dancer. She was famously known for her song Gansta, for the movie suicide squad. Kehlani Ashley Parrish was born on 24th April, 1995 in Oakland, California. Kehlani identifies her ethnicity as a mix of Black, white with a blend of Filipino, American and Mexican. She lost her father to drug addiction as a toddler and was raised by her Aunt as her mother also suffered from drug addiction and was sent to prison to serve jail time.
Kehlani joined Oakland’s Art’s school and practised ballet and modern dance. She grew up listening to Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott who became her inspiration for her music career. At the age of 14 Kehlani was recruited as a member of a pop cover band called Poplyfe. In 2011, the group finished 4th in America’s Got talent season 6. After AGT she left Poplyfe and took a break from music career. In 2014, she released her mixtapes and had few songs on record until 2016. Her song Gangsta from Suicide squad fetched her recognition globally and in the same year she announced the title of her debut album ‘SweetSexySavage’ which got released in 2017. From then her career in the music industry slowly began skyrocketing. She has featured in number songs along with top billboard artists and has released various albums and mixtapes so far.
