Who Is Criston Cole?
Ser Criston Cole was a knight from House Cole. He became the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard for Viserys I Targaryen. He has had a friendly relationship with Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is the daughter of Viserys. Criston Cole has requested Viserys's son, Prince Aegon the Elder, to take the rule of the Seven Kingdoms as his father died. This resulted in the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war between Aegon II and his elder half-sister, Rhaenyra, whom Viserys has grown as his successor. For this, the knight is famous as Criston the Kingmaker. Criston Cole also served as Hand of the King for Aegon II during part of the war.
What Happens To Ser Criston Cole In The Books?
When Ser Harrold Westerling died in 112 AC, Criston Cole was named his successor to lead the white cloaks. Ser Harrold Westerling is the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard before his death. Criston's aim in supporting Aegon II Targaryen in the Dance of the Dragons is not clear. Some performed from goal as Aegon was controllable than his willful half-sister Rhaenyra Targaryen. Others permitted Criston Nobler's goal, and he was defending ancient Andal custom providing priority to sons over daughters.

Ser Criston Cole and Prince Regent Aemond Targaryen were heading an army of 4,000 greens from King's Landing to take back the Harrenhal in the Riverlands from Prince Daemon Targaryen. Prince Targaryen vacated the castle prior to the arrival of Criston. Aemond started to burn the Riverlands, and Cole marched his other 3600 greens south along the western shore of the Gods Eye. The Kingmakers were lurked by the Winter Wolves and river Knights South of the Gods Eye. Criston Cole dies after his opponents ordered their archers to fire upon him and was killed after being struck by three arrows which is known as the Butcher’s Ball.
