Who Is Matt Casey On Chicago Fire?

Jesse Spencer plays the fictional character Matthew Casey in the NBC drama Chicago Fire. At Firehouse 51, Casey works as a fireman. From Seasons 1-6, he served as a Lieutenant in the Chicago Fire Department's Truck Company 81. As of Season 6, he is a Captain.

The protagonist of the Chicago P.D. spinoff of Chicago Fire, Detective Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), and the character have a long-running dispute. In the Chicago Fire season 3 finale, Casey's plot again intersects with Voight's after he unwillingly agrees to assist Voight with an undercover investigation.

What Happened To Matt Casey On Chicago Fire?

After ten seasons, Jesse Spencer is waving farewell to "Chicago Fire." In the firefighter drama, the Australian actor who plays Capt. Matthew Casey starred in his farewell episode as a series regular on Wednesday. Since the 2012 debut of the Dick Wolf-produced NBC program, he has been in the part. Casey decided to move to Oregon to take care of his late best friend Andy Darden's sons.

Fans of "Fire" should not fret, though, since Casey could still return.

In the 200th episode of the show, viewers watch Casey inform Sylvie Brett (Kara Kilmer), the woman he is in love with, and his coworkers that he will be spending three years in Portland, Oregon, taking care of his late best friend Andy Darden's boys.

When Griffin (Cameron Scott Roberts), the son of Firehouse 51 legend Darden (Corey Sorenson), recently appeared in Chicago seeking assistance, Casey got a position with the Portland Fire Department so he could step in.

In a Zoom call with journalists, Spencer and executive producer Derek Haas stated that they had promised to "at least get Casey to 200 episodes."

Spencer remarked, "I've liked the show from the beginning, so it was a hard decision."

But I also have some family I need to take care of, and there are other things I'd like to pursue in the future, he added. And that's a big stretch; 18 years is a long time.

Is Casey Back On Chicago Fire?

While it was nice to have Jesse Spencer returning in the season 10 finale, there do not appear to be any plans for Spencer to return as Casey in season 11. In fact, it was very obvious from the writing that Casey is content with the life he's built for himself in Oregon.

Despite the fact that the authors managed to get Spencer back for the finale, it seems that this will be the last time we see him because the idea seems to be for Casey to move back to Oregon where he will continue to watch over the Darden boys and work at a local fire station.

The fact that the two appeared to agree to part ways in the final Brettsey scene of the finale hinted that the relationship may have reached its breaking point. Brett makes it plain that her life is still in Chicago while Casey has established a life for herself in Oregon. She also makes suggestions that she believes the time is now for them to split ways.

We suppose the authors wouldn't have dealt Brettsey that curveball if the idea was for Casey to return to a regular role in season 11.

There is no current information on plans for Spencer to return as Casey as a series regular in season 11, however, there is always a chance he will make another guest appearance.
