In 1997, 19-year-old Louise Woodward worked as an au pair in Boston, Massachusetts for the Eappen family. But, just 10 weeks after she began the job, eight-month-old Matthew Eappen died of brain injuries – which Louise was accused of causing.

After Louise’s arrest, she was alleged to have "tossed" and "lightly shaken" the baby. The prosecution argued that Eappen had died as a result of a brain haemorrhage, which was caused by Shaken Baby Syndrome. The lengthy trial of Louise Woodward clenched both the US and UK public. Many of them were keenly following this case. Louise herself implored not guilty to battery of a child, but the prosecution showed her as a liar. She was alleged of second-degree murder.

According to A&E, on 4th February 1997, Loiuse Woodward placed a 911 call saying that a baby was experiencing trouble breathing. The baby Matthew Eappen, was taken to the Children's Hospital in Boston. The baby remained in a state of coma. Doctors at the hospital told that Matthew suffered from shaken baby syndrome along with severe brain damage, and a skull fracture. The baby also suffered bleeding at the back of his eyes and between his skull and brain.

Where Is Louise Woodward Now?

On 30th October 1997, after the completion of 26 hours of deliberations, the jury found her guilty of second-degree murder. The very next day, Judge Zobel sentenced her to life in prison with a minimum of 15 years to be served. The presiding judge was Hiller B. Zobelin this case.  The prosecution was headed by Assistant District Attorney Gerard Leone, along with Assistant District Attorney Martha Coakley.
