Keira Caine, his girlfriend, verified on social media that she was on her way to the hospital to see him after he was hospitalized for high blood pressure. Due to excessive blood pressure, the Moonshiner had to go to the hospital. While physicians sought to figure out what was wrong, he was hooked up to IVs, machines, and pumps. Jerry was sweating profusely, his arms and legs were weak, and he could barely move his left arm. After being told he had bleeding on his brain, he was moved to Asheville, a larger hospital. According to Mike, his blood pressure was "at a place where he should be dead at this point."

Mike Cockrell, his business partner, said that something was definitely going wrong with the mind, with the brain, and Jerry was in rough shape right then. Mike added that he always tried to hope for the best, and he hoped that Jerry would get better. Jerry appeared in Moonshiners in the 2019 episode called "Back to the Woods." In that episode, Jerry worked with Mike at a discrete mountain site to make their favorite alcoholic spirit batches. He starred in the 9th season premiere and 27 more episodes. Jerry also starred in the most recent episode called "Backwoods Bonanza" in Season 10. The episode aired in April 2021 made the fans believe he was still affiliated with the famous Discovery Channel franchise.
