A year ago in February 2021, Todd Kochutin was hit by a crab pot which can weigh around 800 pounds. He never recovered from his injuries. In April 2022, another crewman Francis Katungin was also hit by a crab pot and it pinned him against the railing. Fans over the show all hope that he is okay. The water was very choppy on the day that he was injured and the crab pot slid towards Francis Katungin because of this. He was immediately crushed and trapped.

Francis Katungin was trapped by a crab pot in April 2022 due to choppy waves. The captain of the show Rip Carlton was very shaken but he quickly moved to assess the situation. After Francis was moved inside, he was obviously in a lot of pain. The captain guesses that he had a broken hip and needed immediate medical attention. He then turned and told the camera that he was exhausted. The crew for the Deadliest Catch was on board at the time and caught the event on camera.

Francis Katungin was then airlifted from the boat so that he could be moved to a hospital. By then the water had only gotten worse and it was very difficult for the helicopter to lower someone to the boat to collect Francis and to bring the both of them back again. They managed to pull it off though and Francis was moved to the helicopter. The captain had a hard time maintaining the course needed but it all worked out in the end.

'Deadliest Catch' Crewman Francis Katungin

Francis made it to the helicopter but there were a lot of concerns on whether or not he had internal bleeding. Captain Carleton said, “I guarantee that you will hold your breath when you watch. No special effects needed,” when he was asked about the episode. There has not been much information on his condition since then, however reports have confirmed that he is alive and is slowly recovering.
