Who Is Anne Darwin?

Anne Darwin and her husband, John Darwin, met in 1973 and married two years later. Mark and Anthony were the couple's two kids.

Anne worked as a full-time receptionist for a doctor, while John worked as a prison officer in HM Prison Holme House in Stockton-on-Tees. The couple also possessed 12 bedsits across County Durham, but they got into serious debt after purchasing two houses in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, in December 2000.

Two years later, John, who was on the verge of declaring bankruptcy due to debts of over £700,000, decided to stage his own death in order to collect life insurance money. Anne agreed to go along with the blunder.

Anne said to The Guardian in 2016,  “John could also be persuasive. He told me, ‘I’ll only need to vanish for a couple of weeks and we’ll have the money.’ It got out of control.
