What Happened Between Walt And Gretchen?
We may find that Walter and Gretchen had some type of relationship while working together on a project in grad school. As the audience knew, two of them were friends and schoolmates of Elliot's. We also know that Walt and Gretchen had a breakup. Maybe three of them had assembled a possibly commercially viable thought. Elliot and Walt started a business using a combination of their last names. Gretchen Schwartz is Walter White's chemistry lab partner at his Old College. She is also his ex-girlfriend and former lab assistant. Gretchen is a lucky person who will be smooth sailing in their full life. She was born into a wealthy family and married a wealthy man.
Gretchen Schwartz and Walt sparked a romance, fell in love and were at one point engaged. However, after introducing Walt to her family on a Fourth of July weekend, he left her without any explanation due to feelings of inferiority that her family's wealth and status stirred up in him.

For reasons not yet explained, Walter suddenly left Gretchen. A small guess is that Elliot and Gretchen had started to see each other with romance after she had a break up with Walt. Since the company remained mainly on that paper at that point, Walt got a $5000 buyout and traveled on his path. She had started working for Walter and Elliot as a lowly lab assistant at their company Grey Matter and then got promoted to co-owner.
