The Rashi system of Indian astrology places the Vruschika Rashi at the eighth position. This planetary shift of the Sun God on Vrischik Sankranti helps it to replenish vigour and occurs at a specified time of the year. The Hindu calendar considers the Sankranti season to be particularly auspicious for charity, penance and performing Shradh for ancestors. Bathing in holy rivers is seen to be particularly auspicious. On the 16th and 17th of November, the Sun will transit from Libra to Scorpio. Vrischik Sankranti is a day dedicated to the worship of the Sun God. Hindu worshipers seek Surya Bhagwan's heavenly blessings by praying to Him. 'Shradh' and 'Pitru Tarpan' are essential ceremonies on the festival of Vrischik Sankranti.
On Vrischik Sankranti, the auspicious hour begins sixteen ghatis (one day = 60 ghatis) before the Sankranti moment. Between the commencement of the auspicious period and the real Sankranti moment is the finest time to undertake Punya or Daan activities. Giving a cow to a Brahmin on Vrischik Sankranti is thought to bestow enormous merits on the observer. Hindu religious teachings and books such as the 'Vishnu Sahasranama' and 'Aditya Hrudayam' are said to be very beneficial. In the worship of the Sun God, devotees also chant or recite stotras or Vedic mantras.

On the day of Vrischik Sankranti, people should get up early before dawn to worship the Sun God.
When offering water to the Sun, red sandalwood must be added and the water must be served in a copper pot. In addition, make Arghya with Roli, vermilion, and turmeric in water and offer it to Suryadev.
To make a red lamp, mix red sandalwood with ghee before lighting it.
Guggal incense, saffron, Roli, and vermilion are some other items to present to Suryadev.
Suryadev should be given crimson flowers.
