Carol Miller, a Butterball turkey talk-line expert, revealed that there is only one way to ensure your bird is cooked properly. It would be best if you determined the internal temperature.

"You can't tell if a turkey is done just by looking at its color. And some people cook by the time. They look, and it says three to three and a half hours, so they cook it for three and a half hours and take it out of the oven," Miller said. "But you need to cook by temperature. So early in the season, when we get someone on the phone or via email, we remind them to get that meat thermometer out, buy one if you don't have one, and make sure it's calibrated."

So the only way to ensure your turkey is cooked to perfection is to use a properly calibrated meat thermometer. Your turkey's temperature should be 165 degrees F in the thickest part of the breast and the innermost part of the thigh. Where To Put The Pop-Up Thermometer In Turkey?

When using an instant-read meat thermometer to check your turkey's temperature, please place it in the thickest part of the breast and the innermost part of the thigh and wing. Before putting your turkey in the oven, insert an oven-proof food thermometer into the thickest part of the inner thigh.

How Do I Know My Turkey Is Done?

Numerous factors can influence your total cooking time. The two most important ones, however, are the cooking temperature and the size of your turkey.

An oven temperature of 325 degrees is ideal for roasting. However, consider raising the temperature to 350 or 375 degrees to get the turkey on the table faster. Smoked meat operates under a different set of guidelines. We set the smoker to 225 degrees Fahrenheit when smoking fatty cuts like brisket and pork butt. Because turkey is leaner, it can be cooked at a lower temperature, but it also can be cooked quickly.

At 325 degrees, whole turkeys should be cooked for 15 minutes per pound. As a result, a 12-pound specimen should reach your desired internal temperature in approximately 3 hours.

The meat will take longer to cook in a 275-degree smoker. At this temperature, plan on smoking the turkey for 20 to 25 minutes per pound. That same 12-pounder will require 4 to 5 hours in the smoker.

What Temperature Is Turkey Done?

According to the USDA, your turkey is done when it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. It is not recommended to stuff your turkey before roasting, but if you do, the stuffing must also reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit when measured with a food thermometer. To determine how long it will take your turkey to reach a safe minimum internal temperature, use the following approximate timelines:
