Neeraj Chopra Won Silver In World Athletics Championship 2022

  • Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal in the men's Javelin throw event in the World Athletics Championship 2022. He managed to record a throw of 88.13m in his 4th attempt. With this performance, Neeraj became the only 2nd Indian Athlete to win a medal at the World Championship. Anju Bobby George won a bronze medal at the World Championship in Long Jump in 2003 held in Paris.

  • During the event, Neeraj's start was a bit off, as his 1st throw was a foul throw. On his 2nd try, he managed to record a throw of 82.39m, then on his 3rd attempt, he recorded 86.37m, and in the 4th and final attempt was 88.13m. Neeraj was awarded the silver medal. The gold medal was won by Anderson Peters, who recorded a throw of 90.54m in his final attempt. Jakub Vadlejch won the bronze medal.

The Board of Control for Cricket or the BCCI introduced a new A+ category for its umpires and Nitin Menon.

  • In India, The Board of Control for Cricket or the BCCI introduced a new A+ category for its umpires, and Nitin Menon, with 10 other officials, has been grouped in the category. 

  • Umpires in A+ and A categories are paid Rs 40,000 a day for a 1st-class game, and Rs 30,000 a day are paid in the B and C category.

  • The others in the A+ category include 4 international umpires. They are Madangopal Jayaraman, Anil Chaudhary, Virender Kumar Sharma, and K N Ananthapadmabhanan.

  • Nikhil Patwardhan, Rohan Pandit, Sadashiv Iyer, Navdeep Singh Sidhu, and Ulhas Gandhe are also part of the A+ category.

  • Twenty umpires form the A group, sixty are in Group B, 46 are in Group C, and 11 are in Group D, which falls in the 60-65 age bracket.
