First Indian Woman to Climb 5 Peaks Above 8,000 meters was Priyanka Mohit.

Priyanka Mohite from the Satara district of Maharashtra has become the first Indian woman to summit five peaks over 8000 meters. 

Highlights:

  • After ascending Mount Kanchenjunga, Priyanka reached a milestone. On May 5, the 30-year-old climbed the world's third-highest peak. Priyanka works for a Bengaluru-based pharmaceutical research firm.

  • She received the coveted Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award in 2020. Mount Everest was climbed in 2013, Mount Lhotse in 2018, Mount Makalu in 2019, and Annapurna 1 in 2021 by the 30-year-old. She is also the first woman from India to summit Annapurna 1 and Makalu.

  • She ascended the second mountain in 2018 after Nepal was damaged by snowfall in 2014 and an earthquake in 2015.

  • Priyanka had planned to climb Mount Kanchenjunga in 2020 but could not do so due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She began mountain climbing as a teenager in Maharashtra's Shayadri region.

  • Priyanka climbed Bandarpunch in 2012. The Himalayan massif of Uttarakhand's Garhwal division includes Bandrapunch. Priyanka ascended Mt. Menthosa, which is 6443 meters above sea level, in 2015. It is the second-highest peak in the Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh.

Poumai Naga Area of Manipur Declared As Drug-Free Zone

The Poumai tribe in Manipur has designated Poumai inhabited areas a Drug-Free Zone, supporting the state government's anti-drug effort. 

Highlights:

  • A large commission of the Poumai tribe, led by MLAs and leaders of the students union and civil society organizations, met Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today in Imphal and delivered the resolution of the Drug-Free Zone in Poumai-populated parts of the State. 

  • They also told the Chief Minister that poppy cultivation would be prohibited in the Poumai region.

  • The Chief Minister praised the Poumai Naga tribe's decision and stated that the state government would not accept deforestation or poppy cultivation in Manipur's hill areas. 

  • The Paumai tribe's chiefs have stated that the community will join the fight against the state's drug problem.

The Merger of Equitas Holdings and Equitas SFB Approved By RBI

The merger plan of Equitas Small Finance Bank and its parent business Equitas Holdings Ltd has been approved by the Reserve Bank of India, subject to certain conditions. 

Highlights:

  • The RBI's no objection letter comes with conditions. The merger is taking place to comply with RBI minor finance bank criteria, which require the promoter to reduce their stake in the subsidiary to 40% within five years of the SFB's launch (Small Finance Bank).

  • According to RBI rules handed down for SFBs in June 2016 and guidelines for licensing SFBs in the private sector in November 2014, equity shares of SFBs should be listed on a recognized stock exchange(s) within three years of the date the SFB's net value reaches Rs 500 crore.

  • In the instance of ESFB, the applicable listing date was September 4, 2019. However, it launched banking operations with more than Rs 500 crore in net value.

  • An IPO was held to meet the listing requirements, and ESFB shares began trading on platforms on November 2, 2020.

  • The third criterion is that a subsidiary must be brought into the fold if a promoter owns more than 40%.
