Somvar Vrat Katha

A long time ago, the moneylender lived in the city. There wasn't any shortage of money in his house, but he had no children, due to which he was unfortunate. He used to fast every Monday to be blessed with a son and worshipped Lord Shiva and Parvati Ji with full devotion. Seeing this dedication, one day, Maa Parvati became happy and requested Lord Shiva to fulfil the wishes of that money lender. Hearing the desires of Parvati Ji, Lord Shiva said that 'O Parvati, every creature in this world gets the fruits of his deeds and whose fate has to be suffered.' But Parvati Ji expressed her desire to fulfil the wishes of the moneylender to keep her faith. On request of Mata Parvati, Shivji gave a boon to the moneylender, but he also said that the age of his child would be only twelve years. The moneylender was listening to the talk of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. He wasn't happy nor sad about this. He continues to worship Shiva as before. Later a son was born to the moneylender. When the boy was eleven years old, he was sent to Kashi for studies. The moneylender spoked the maternal uncle of the son and provided him with a lot of money and said that you take this child to attain Kashi Vidya and perform Yajna on the way. Wherever you perform the Yajna, go to the Brahmins providing food and giving Dakshina.

Both uncles and nephews would serve Yajna in the same way and deliver donations and Dakshina to Brahmins and went towards Kashi. It was a city in the night where the daughter of the king of the town was married off. But the prince he was to marry was always Kana with only one eye. The prince thought of a plan to hide the fact that his son did not have sight in one eye. Under the moneylender's son, an idea came to his mind. He thought, why can't we make this boy a bride and marry the princess. After the marriage, I will give it away and take the princess to her city. The boy was married off to the princess wearing the groom's wardrobe. But the moneylender's son was honest. He didn't find this to be justified. He made use of the opportunity and wrote on the foot of the princess's sardine, 'You are married to me, but the prince with whom you will be sent is Kana with one eye. I am going to read Kashi. When the princess had read the words written on the sardine, she told her parents about this. The king did not leave his daughter, going the procession way back. While, the moneylender's boy and his maternal uncle reached Kashi and went there and performed a yajna. On that day, age when he was 12 years old, a yajna was performed. The boy had informed his maternal uncle that my health is not right. And Mama said that you go inside and sleep. According to Shiva's boon, the child's life left out in a while. Wat the dead nephew, his maternal uncle began to mourning. Accidentally at the same time, Shiva and Mata Parvati were leaving from there. Parvati informed God- Swami, I cannot bear the cry of its cry. You must remove this person's suffering. When Shivji reached the dead boy, he said that he is the son of the same moneylender, whom he gave the boon of 12 years of age. Now its era is over. But Mother Mother Parvati said that please, Mahadev, please provide more period to this child. Either way, his parents will also die in isolation.

Mata Parvati, Lord Shiva offered the boy a boon to be alive. By the grace of Shiva, that boy became alive. After completing their education, the boy went to his city with his maternal uncle. Both walked to the same town where they were married. He had performed a yagna in that city. The boy's father-in-law understood him and took him along to the palace and took care of him well and sent his daughter off. The moneylender and his wife were hungry and thirsty waiting for their son. He pledged that if he had received the news of his son's death, he would give up his life, but he was pleased to get the information that his son was alive.
