Lava and Kusa, the sons of Rama lived in this place once. One day, when Rama was passing by this place, they fought a war with Rama without knowing that he was their father. As the two young children started a war in this place, it was called Siruvar Por Puri. Siruvar means children, Por Puri means starting a war in Thamizh. Now it is called Chinnambedu, which originally was Siruvar Ambu Edu that translates to children who took their arrows for the fight.
Lord Muruga here is called Śrī Balasubramanyar and he is powerful, and also grants wishes of devotees. This beautiful temple also includes Śrī Annamalaiyar and Śrī Unnamulai Amman. The Lord Muruga is seen as Valli Manalar in a wedding posture with Śrī Valli. It is believed that Lord Muruga will grant wishes for those who intend to buy or construct a house. Most people who wish to buy a house visit Lord Muruga here for blessings to fulfill their dreams. A special feature of this temple is the Maragatha Mayil, the carrier of Lord Muruga, is made of green stone. Arunagirinathar has visited this temple and also sung several Thiruppugazh songs here.
