In hinduism, the fast of child Saptami is celebrated with great pomp. This fast is observed every year on the seventh day of Bhado month Sukhla Paksha. This fast is especially observed for child attainment, child protection and child happiness. The mother who performs this fast should wear clean clothes in the morning, after bathing and retiring from regular activities. After this, one should pray to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva in the morning. After fasting, in the afternoon, worship Shiva and Parvati again with chandan, sandalwood, akshat, incense, lamp, naivedh, betel nut, and coconut, etc and in the afternoon praying to protect the child. Aarti is performed with family members. Putting a head in front of God is said to be the wish of your heart. Later, happiness is distributed to all family members and the neighborhood as a Prasad. The fast of Saptami of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada holds special significance in hinduism.
Story behind Santan Saptami
Nahusha was the king of Ayodhya, his wife's name was Chandra Mukhi. Chandra Mukhi had a friend, whose name was Roopmati, she was the wife of a Brahmin in the city. There was a lot of love between both the sisters One day,both of them went to bathe on the banks of river Saryu, many women were fasting on Saptami. Hearing this, both these friends also decided to observe this fast but after coming home they had forgotten about the fast. After a while both the sisters died and both were born in an animal cunt.
After many births, both of them were born in the human cunt, in this birth, Chandravati's name was Ishwari and Roopmati's name was Bhushana. Ishwari was the wife of the king and the wife of Bhushana Brahmin, both of them had a lot of love even in this birth. In this birth, Bhushan remembered the story of her previous birth, so she observed the fast by which she was blessed with eight sons, but Ishwari did not observe this fast, so she was not able to conceive. Due to this, Bhushan was envious. She tried to kill Bhusna's sons in many ways, but her sons did not suffer any damage due to the impact of her fast. Being tired, Ishwari told Bhusha about her jealousy and her act and finally apologized. Then Bhushana reminded her of the previous birth and advised her to observe the fast of child Saptami. Ishwari fasted with full law and was blessed with a beautiful boy. Since then, this fast is observed for the protection of one’s children and to be blessed with a child.

Either father or mother, or both, hold a Vrat to pray for their children's well-being. They pray to Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati to bless their children with a long, prosperous, and healthy life.
