Rosa Bonheur Cause Of Death - FAQs
Thomery, France, is a place where the artist died.
She died on 25th May, 1989
After her mother's death several years later, Rosa left school to help support the family but continued to draw. Her father took the children to visit the Paris art galleries, where they studied the works of the great artists.
Rosa Bonheur was the oldest of four children, two girls and two boys, born to an idealistic artist father, Oscar-Raymond, and a patient piano teacher mother, Sophie. Interestingly, all four of the children grew to be talented and successful artists.
As a teenager, her father taught her how to paint, offering his eldest an outlet to explore her passion: animals. Bonheur's lifelong love of animals began when she was just a toddler, and her father's lessons fostered it.
After a failed apprenticeship as a seamstress at the age of 12, Bonheur's father began instructing her in art and painting. With the love of animals instilled in her at a young age by her mother, Bonheur began studying domesticated animals in fields and pastures around Paris and copying paintings at the Louvre museum.
