The main aim of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme is to provide health coverage to approximately 50 crore Indians. 1. Health Cover of Rs. 5 lakhs: PMJAY provides a health cover of Rs. 5 Lakhs for families and individuals living below the poverty line across India.

Eligibility Criteria for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana for Rural and Urban People

PMJAY scheme is mainly for the poor and lower middle income families. The health coverage provided for each family is of INR 5 lakh. Now, just like any other health plan, the PMJAY scheme too, has certain stipulations. Depending on these pre-conditions, it decides who can avail of the health coverage benefits. The eligibility criteria mainly depend on the individuals’ living conditions, income, and other deprivations when it comes to rural areas. Whereas for the urban areas, it depends on each individual’s occupation.

PMJAY Rural:

The PMJAY health facility is available to the following in the rural areas –

  • People belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe families

  • Legally released bonded labourers

  • Households with no male members aged between 16 and 59

  • Beggars and those surviving on alms

  • Families that has no individuals aged between 16 and 59

  • Primitive tribal communities

  • Households with at least one physically challenged person and no healthy adult individual can avail this facility

  • Landless families who earn a living by working as casual manual labourers

  • Manual scavenger families

  • People living in one-room makeshift houses with no well-built walls or roof

PMJAY Urban:

In the urban areas, PMJAY scheme can be availed primarily by –

  • Assistants, delivery men, peons of a small organization, shopkeepers and waiters

  • Washerman/ Chowkidars

  • Mechanics, electricians, and repair workers

  • Domestic help

  • Rag Pickers

  • Sanitation workers, gardeners, and sweepers

  • Tailors

  • Home-based artisans and handicraft workers

  • Cobblers and people providing services by working on pavements or streets

  • Transport workers such as drivers, helpers, conductors, cart, or rickshaw pullers

  • Plumbers, construction workers, masons, porters, welders, painters, and security guards

What is the Registration Process of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana?

Eligibility Criteria

There is no specific registration process to apply for PMJAY. It applies to all beneficiaries as identified by the SECC 2011 and those who already belong to the RSBY plan. If you want to check whether you are eligible to be a beneficiary of PMJAY, follow the steps below –

  1. Visit the PMJAY government website (https://www.pmjay.gov.in/) and click on 'Am I Eligible.' option

  2. Enter your contact number and click on 'Generate OTP.'

  3. Select your state and search by name/HHD number/ration card number/mobile number

  4. Based on the results, you can verify whether your family is eligible for the PMJAY scheme.

Alternatively, to know anything about Ayushman Bharat Yojana's eligibility, you can contact any Empanelled Health Care Provider (EHCP) or Ayushman Bharat Yojana call center at 14555 or 1800-111-565.

1. Who are the ones that are not eligible for PMJAY?

People who are not eligible for availing PMJAY health services include the ones –

  • Owning a two, three, or four-wheeler or a motorized fishing boat

  • Have a mechanized farming equipment
