The story that comes to mind at the end of Kartikamasam is 'Poli Swargam'. At the end of the month of Karti, devotees get up early in the morning and bathe in the river. Light the lamps in the banana huts with the vats dipped in water and released into the rivers. It has become a tradition to light lamps on amphibians before the Lord. On this day the women get up in the morning, finish their baths, worship in the temples and then light the lamps in the corners and leave. Lamps made of rice flour are mostly used. The festival is celebrated as a police parade when one reaches Vaikuntha by praying to Lord Vishnu with pure devotion despite all obstacles. There is a story to tell why this festival is called Poli Padyami. Paradise Nomu is one of the Nomu that women celebrate with the utmost devotion. This Nomu, which has been preserving its existence since ancient times, affects the women of this generation as well.
How is Poli Padyami 2021 Observed?
Poli Padyami, the first day of Maargasira, after the conclusion of the auspicious Kaarthika month, would be celebrated with Hindu Devotees' zeal. On this occasion, Women light lamps in the banana stem dip a wick in Cow Ghee, burn it and leave them in water to mark this occasion.

Poli Swargam Story in Telugu
Poli Swargam incorporates a mythological history. About thousands of years ago, a washerwoman in Varanasi was blessed with seven sons. All of them were happily married. The daughters-in-law would pass all the domestic work to the seventh daughter-in-law, Polamma. Polamma, the obedient and religiously devoted, bore it patiently and continued her devotional activities too within the same vein. In the Karthika Masam also, this daily routine continued. At the intervening hours of Karthika Masam and Margasira Masam, all the six daughters-in-law visited the Ganga River and lighted the lamp and left them within the river waters in the wee hours. While doing this, they asked Polamma to remain at home and finish all domestic chores. She agreed and finished work. But she was worried since she couldn’t visit the river to light the lamp.
A strong-willed Polamma then came across a thought. She put water in a tub, made a cotton lamp and left the lamp within the water-filled tub. The lamp travelled right along with the bathtub as if it moved on river water. It is done as per the belief that lives travel to heavens via the Poli Swargam Deepam. Then an unexpected incident happened. The six daughters-in-law, who were on the banks of the River Ganga, saw Polamma being taken by the messengers of God to the heavens. They were stunned first on the other hand and realized that she was a far better devotee among them and repented for asking her to end all domestic chores alone of these years. Since that day onwards, the lamp lighted by Polamma is being called Poli Swargam Deepam and girls across India, who were unable to go to the river, began lighting the Poli Swargam Deepam.
