Peaky Blinders Actor Dies
Toby Kirkup, star of Peaky Blinders, died mere hours after being released from the hospital, according to an inquest. The actor, who previously starred in the ITV series Emmerdale, died on August 29, 2020, at the age of 48, at home alone after visiting Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. After experiencing chest aches and tingling in his arms, Toby decided to seek medical help. He was transported back to his Titanic Mills home in Linthwaite after being checked by specialists and diagnosed with gastritis.
How did Toby Kirkup Die?
Dr. Karen Ramsden, a pathologist, told an inquest at Bradford Coroner's Court that the 48-year-old died alone at his home in Titanic Mills, Linthwaite, from bleeding caused by a burst aortic arch aneurysm.
Toby's family requested that a coroner looks into his death because they were concerned about his treatment. Toby began drinking and using drugs while at university, according to a statement read during the virtual hearing, but had been "clean" since going to a rehab centre in South Africa over ten years before his death. And his family members believe he died as a result of being "misdiagnosed," with the focus on his stomach pain rather than his chest pain.
