As we mentioned above, National Statistics Day is a day celebrated in India to create awareness among the youth about the importance of Statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation to honour the scientist and statistician  Prof. P C Mahalanobis on his birthday. The first National Statistics Day was started in 2007. 

1931- The Indian Statistical Institute was established and started with a Statistical Laboratory set up by P C Mahalanobis.

1950- National Sample Survey was founded by the government of India to develop a socio-economic framework.

1970- The units of ISI in Delhi and Bangalore were turned into teaching centres.

2007- First National Statistics Day was started by the Indian government. 

National Statistics Day Significance

Statistics aid in the development of economic plans and policies. It offers information in a clear and concise manner. Statistics is important in the health profession since it aids in the performance of social surveys. It's also an important aspect of mathematics. In honour of Mahalonobis' outstanding contribution to the establishment of the National Statistical System, the Ministry of Statistics, and programme implementation, June 29 has been designated as one of the unique days to be observed at the national level.
