As per Hindu Calendar, Chaturdashi Tithi during Krishna Paksha of each month is observed as Masa Shivaratri or Masik Shivaratri. The meaning of Masik is ‘Monthly’ and Shivaratri means ‘Night of Lord Shiva’. The day helps devotees control their senses and helps them to curb malevolent feelings of jealousy, anger, pride, and greed. On this day, the people who are waiting to get married fast to attain their partner. Shivaratri is the 14th night of the lunar month. The darkest night comes before every Amavasya or new moon. People take a bath with sesame seeds to remove body impurities
The devotees visit Shiva temple and do hymns, bhajans, and offer prayers
People offer yogurt, rosewater, honey, sandalwood paste, Aegle Marmelos (bel Patra), betel leaves (paan patta), rice, fruits, and flowers to worship Shiva
Devotees apply sacred ash (vibhuti or bhasma) on their forehead and light Diyas and incense sticks to invoke Lord Shiva’s blessings
Devotees enchant "Om Namah Shivaya" throughout the day and night as it is believed that the mantra is capable of liberating you from your previous sins.
