James Beard Awards

The James Beard Awards aim to honor remarkable talent and performance in the culinary arts, hospitality, media, and the more extensive food system, as well as a demonstrated dedication to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and a culture that allows everyone to thrive. The James Beard Foundation Awards are given annually to culinary experts in the United States by the James Beard Foundation. Each year, around James Beard's birthday on May 5, the awards honor chefs, restaurateurs, authors, and journalists. The media awards were given out during a dinner in New York City, and the chef and restaurant honors were given out in New York until the Foundation's annual gala moved to Chicago in 2015. The Awards will be held in Chicago through 2027.

When Are James Beard Awards 2022?

The James Beard Foundation Awards are one of the most prestigious awards in the American food industry. After two tense years, the celebration honoring chefs and restaurants is set in Chicago on Monday, June 13, 2022, just like it did before the pandemic. On Wednesday, February 23, the semifinalist list was released. On Wednesday, March 16, the finalists will be unveiled via a live stream. There will be a Media Awards ceremony in June as in previous years. The official date has yet to be announced by the Foundation, but it is usually within a week of the restaurant and chef awards.

Outstanding Restaurant 

  • Parachute is nominated for Outstanding Restaurant. The chefs and owners of Parachute in Avondale, Beverly Kim and Johnny Clark are no strangers to award nominations. In 2019, the duo won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Great Lakes, and their intimate Korean-American restaurant, Parachute, has received numerous awards, including Bon Appetit's Best New Restaurant.

  • Nobody's Darling is nominated for Outstanding Bar Program. Since they opened their doors last year, this black-owned, women-owned cocktail bar in Andersonville has been a friendly and inclusive space.

Best New Restaurant

Kasama is nominated for Best New Restaurant. Kasama has long been recognized as a unique talent in Chicago. It was the only restaurant in Chicago to receive a coveted four-star review from the Chicago Tribune in 2021.
