ITVX Not Working

ITVX is set to replace ITV's previous streaming app, ITV Hub, and went live this week (weeks ahead of its "official" December 8 launch date). Users do not need to download a new app because the ITVX app will "overwrite" their existing ITV Hub. The new app is still being rolled out across supported devices as of this writing. However, devices that have lost access to ITV Hub in recent months, such as Humax Freeview and Freesat recorders, older Samsung TVs, and others, will not be able to access ITVX. This is because ITV has upgraded the content protection technology on its streaming platform, rendering ITV Hub and the new ITVX app incompatible with some older devices.

What Is ITVX Channel?

This week, ITV soft-launched ITVX, a new streaming service that will replace its aging ITV Hub app (ahead of an 'official' launch on December 8, when many ITVX Originals will be added). ITVX is intended to be more than a "catch-up" service and more of a streaming destination: it launched with over 10,000 free (ad-supported) hours of on-demand content, including 35 flagship shows, 200+ series, and 250+ films. New shows will debut every week, with many available on ITVX before they air on ITV's traditional linear channels.

Furthermore, the app allows you to stream all of ITV's live channels and several "themed" ad-supported live channels dedicated to a single series or theme. While ITV primarily focuses on the ad-supported free tier, ITVX will also offer a paid Premium tier that will remove all advertisements when watching on-demand content. New shows will debut every week, with many available on ITVX before they air on ITV's traditional linear channels.

Premium subscribers will also have access to BritBox's entire content library (on ITVX), which includes over 4,000 hours of classic British shows and films (including 600 classic Doctor Who episodes).

The standalone BritBox app and service will coexist with ITVX, but ITX Premium subscribers will not have access to the BritBox app, and vice versa.

How Do You Get ITVX On Your TV?

Here's how to access ITVX from your connected TV:

  1. Launch the ITVX app.

  2. In the left-hand menu, click the Settings icon.

  3. Select 'Sign in.'

  4. You will then be allowed to sign in on another device or use the on-screen keyboard.

When Is ITVX Launching?

ITVX will go live on Thursday, December 8, 2022, with the streaming service's app going live ahead of time. The website is already up and running but will be empty until the launch date. ITV's managing director for media and entertainment, Kevin Lygo, previously told delegates at the Edinburgh TV Festival that the service would launch in November, just in time for the World Cup. However, ITV executives have yet to reveal the reason for the launch delay.

At the platform's initial reveal, Carolyn McCall, ITV's Chief Executive, said: "The digital acceleration we are announcing today builds on everything we have achieved in phase one of our More Than TV strategy. ITVX will be a free service supported by adverts with a compelling subscription proposition. This is fantastic for viewers – it will provide a simplified and seamless experience with thousands of free content made up of both library and original exclusive content. The subscription tier will provide a premium offering and includes all of the content ad-free as well as BritBox and future SVOD content partners."
