Who Is Myra Hindley?

Because of her involvement in the murder of five children, Myra Hindley—who is often considered "the most evil woman in Britain" became one of the most infamous serial killers in British history. Between July 1963 and October 1965, Hindley and her collaborator, Ian Brady, killed five children. As a result of what seems to be a skull being discovered, authorities are now looking for the corpse of one of their victims. 

In January 1951, she joined Millwards as a typist, where she was fascinated with Ian Brandy. The two started dating without Myra knowing the criminal records of Brandy. In June 1963, Brady had moved in with Hindley at her grandmother's residence in Bannock Street. On July 12, the two murdered Pauline Reade, who had gone to school with Hindley's younger sister Maureen and had also had a brief relationship with David Smith, a local boy who had three criminal convictions for misdemeanor offenses. ThoughSmith was questioned by police, they were unable to identify anyone who had seen Reade before she vanished, and they found no evidence linking him to her death. 

Later, they killed John Kilbride on November 23 by taking him in their van. Brady tried to slit Kilbride's throat with a six-inch serrated blade before strangling him with a shoelace or string after sexually assaulting him. On June 16, 1964, Hindley asked 12-year-old Keith Bennett for assistance moving some boxes into her Mini Pick-up as he was en route to his grandmother's home in Longsight. She then promised to drive him home. Later, Bennett was raped by Brandy and strangled with a piece of string. On December 26, 1964, Brady and Hindley were at a funfair in Ancoats when they noticed 10-year-old Lesley Ann Downey appeared to be by herself. Later, they took her with them, raped her, killed her, and buried her body naked with her clothes at her feet in a shallow grave. On October 6, 1965, they killed Edward Evans Throttling with a lengthy electrical cord.

On November 15, 2002, Myra Hindley passed away in a Suffolk hospital. The 60-year-old Moors murderer passed away from respiratory failure after developing a number of heart and lung ailments that led to a decline in her health in the weeks prior to her passing. Chain smoking addict Myra was known to use up to 40 cigarettes every day. She had a variety of health problems during her stay in prison and, according to reports, was taking 42 tablets daily for her numerous afflictions at the time of her death. She had also been admitted to the hospital in 1999 due to a brain aneurysm. Myra had fought to be let out of prison, but she was still there when she passed away. A jail priest read Myra's last rites on the day of her death at 9 a.m. and again for the final time in the afternoon. During her stay in prison, she converted back to Catholicism.

Hindley's father had served with the Parachute Regiment and was stationed in North Africa, Cyprus, and Italy during the Second World War. He then joined Ian Brandy and committed many murders for which she has been sentenced.
