He took part in tennis, swimming, and soccer. He broke his leg once and stopped dancing for some time. But he soon recovered and started dancing.

Chmerkovskiy took part in the competition at the professional level in the International Latin level. He got the second rank in the US and 7th rank among professional international Latin couples in the world. He as an instructor helped his brother Valentin and Diana Olonetskaya in 2016. The Dance pair Valentin and Diana Olonetskaya won the World Junior Championship. Chmerkovskiy owns many Dance studios in the brand name “Dance With Me“. He had won in the competitions.
