Iranian Footballer Arrested
The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the Islamic Republic of Iran's affiliated with the Tasnim news agency, reported on November 17 that Colonel Esmaeil Cheraghi had been killed during nationwide protests.
On November 20, Three days later, IRIB released a video of the forced confessions of three people charged with Cheraghi's murder. Citing Iran's security institution claimed the accused men in Esmaeil Cheraghi and Basij member's death also two others had been arrested in Isfahan city. Mohammed Hossein Karimi and Mohsen Hamidi, Basij members. IRIB did not mention the defendants' names. But they published the videos' identities of the three main defendants on social media: Amir Nasr-Azadani, Saeed Yaghoubi, and Saleh Mirhashmi.
IranWire sources said that Nasr-Azadani had been in some nationwide protests but confirmed by various sources he was never there in the area where the IRGC and Basij forces were killed. It also said that his presence in the protests was short and limited to intonating slogans for a few hours. The Islamic Republic’s judicial system is planning to hang him for a crime called "moharebeh".
