International Beer Day 2020
Jesse Avshalomov, Evan Hamilton, Aaron Araki, and Richard Hernandez, created the International Beer Day in 2007 in San Francisco, the United States, as a way to bring together friends and strangers over beer pints. Between the years 2007 and 2012, the International Beer Day was celebrated on 5 August, but the organizers changed the date to the first Friday of August due to the popular demand that the day is held on a Friday.
Beer is an alcoholic beverage produced by fermenting sugars found in grains of cereals such as wheat or barley. Most of the beers around the world are brewed with herbs, hops, or fruits adding flavor to the beverage. Thought to be the oldest beverage in the world still eaten today, beer has been drunk throughout human history by almost all cultures around the world.
History of International Beer Day?
In all of human history, beer has been consumed by almost every culture. The oldest proof of man's obsession with brewing beer is from ancient Babylonia and Mesopotamia. Archeologists have uncovered beer recipes written in 4300 B.C. on clay tablets and 3400 B.C. ceramic vessels. That is still sticky with the residue of beer. In ancient Egypt, everybody drank beer: pharaohs, peasants, priests, even kids, as part of their daily diet. What may be the first beer song, "Hymn to Ninkasi"an ode to the Sumerian beer goddess dates back to 1800 B.C. And contains a beer brewed by female priestesses.
Christian monks were brewing beers by the Middle Ages and introduced the use of hops. Until then, beers were brewed for adding flavor with local additives such as dates and olive oils. Beers of today continue to be brewed with hops, herbs, or fruits, which add flavor.
